Swarovski - Crystal in Fashion
Swarovski will return to Glasgow this June as Official Jeweller to Scotland's most stylish and coveted event - The Scottish Fashion Awards. Having established itself on the International Red Carpet Calendar, the 6th annual Scottish Fashion Awards will be hosted at the futuristic Glasgow Science Centre with Swarovski Creative Director Nathalie Colin returning to her official seat on the prestigious Judging Panel.
From Hollywood to Glasgow, Swarovski will once again accessorise the celebrities and fashionistas in attendance with sparkling jewels and stylish accessories from its new 'Wings of Fantasy' AW11/12 Fashion Collection, as well as showcasing an impressive catwalk show, created exclusively for the Awards anniversary by Nathalie Colin and modelled by the Scottish Model of the Year finalists.
"Swarovski is delighted to partner with the Scottish Fashion Awards for a third year", explains Nathalie Colin, "this is the best platform to promote Scottish fashion talent who express their creativity internationally. Swarovski has always supported the emerging talents in fashion and related art-design fields - a visionary approach initiated in 1895 by the founder Daniel Swarovski I. Being one of the most important brands in jewellery, Swarovski is thrilled to share the upcoming Winter 2011 fashion jewellery and couture collections with the press and audience through our exclusive catwalk show at the event. I personally will have the pleasure to join the judging panel and to present the winner of the Best Accessory Designer of the Year category with their award".
Innovation, creativity and individuality form the ethos of the Fashion Awards and are values inherent to Swarovski. 2011 will be a year defined by artistic endeavour for Swarovski's latest collection which concludes the "Beyond Nature" trilogy jewellery collection and expresses Nathalie Colin's vision of a natural world that is mysterious, rhythmic and ornamental.
"The collection tells about a modern dance show called "Wings of Fantasy". The first part of the collection - 'Cabinet of Dreams' - is inspired by our muses' dressing room, crammed with souvenirs, pictures and treasures from the time she was a famous ballet dancer. The second part - Mysterious Disguise - has an onstage signature, with spectacular jewels adorning our muse as she performs as a bird woman dancing character. The collection has classical roots yet is contemporary in its interpretation. The entire collection reveals emotion and offers a delicate multifaceted vision of femininity", explains Creative Director and SFA Judge, Nathalie Colin.
With a collection inspired by the rhythmic, aesthetic movements of an elaborate bird in flight, Swarovski continues to sprinkle artistic poetry, magic and grace throughout the forthcoming season, with a sophisticated combination of new and harmonious colours.
Come June, Swarovski and the Scottish Fashion Awards will make their annual tributes in celebration of the very best of Scottish fashion talent and will continue to support and nurture this home grown talent with this phenomenal platform through which to showcase their work.
History
In 1895, Daniel Swarovski I, a Bohemian inventor and visionary, moved to the village of Wattens, Tyrol in Austria, with his newly-invented machine for cutting and polishing crystal jewellery stones. From this beginning that revolutionised the fashion world, Swarovski has grown to be the world's leading producer of precision-cut crystal for fashion, jewellery and more recently lighting, architecture and interiors. Today, the Swarovski group, still family-owned and run by 4th and 5th generation family members, has a global reach with some 24,800 employees, a presence in over 120 countries and a turnover in 2009 of 2.25 billion Euros. Swarovski comprises two major businesses, one producing and selling loose elements to the industry and the other creating design-driven finished products. Swarovski crystals have become an essential ingredient of international design. Since 1965 the company has also catered to the fine jewellery industry with precision-cut genuine and created gemstones. Showing the creativity that lies at the heart of the company, Swarovski's own brand lines of accessories, jewellery and home décor items are sold through more than 1,800 retail outlets worldwide. The Swarovski Crystal Society has close to 350,000 members across the world, keen collectors of the celebrated crystal figurines. And in Wattens, Swarovski Kristallwelten, the multi-media crystal museum, was opened in 1995 as a celebration of Swarovski's universe of innovation and inspiration. The Swarovski group also includes Tyrolit ®, manufacturing grinding tools, Swareflex, for road safety reflectors and Swarovski Optik, producing precision optical instruments.
