Storm

Storm began life in 1987 in a tiny house in Battersea. The house belonged to Sarah Doukas who, armed with seven years experience from running another top London agency, managed to secure Richard Branson as her business partner.

Sarah stormed onto the fashion scene and revolutionized the traditional modelling industry. Her initiative was to launch the first UK model agency to represent New Faces she had discovered herself, worldwide. Storm became the first UK agency to book and market models directly with international clients and in turn foreign agencies placed their top models in Sarah's care.

Over the years Sarah has earned a reputation as the legendary "spotter" - the maverick model agent with an eye for diversity and talent who could turn a young hopeful into a star. 1988 will be remembered as the year Sarah changed the history of fashion when she spotted Kate Moss at a New York airport. This success was to be repeated throughout the years with Sarah consistently recognizing the potential in new faces. Liberty Ross, Behati Prinsloo, Jane March, Devon Aoki, Cat Deeley, Holly Willoughby, Sophie Dahl and Alexa Chung have all forged their careers through Storm.

2006 saw the launch of Storm's Special Bookings division which was set up to run alongside the model agency to source prestige commercial opportunities for clients beyond the fashion industry. Special Bookings represent Emma Watson, Lily Allen, Daphne Guinness, Paolo Nutini, Katherine Jenkins, Peaches Geldof, The Queens of Noize, and Kimberly Stewart among others.

Sarah has run the agency since the early days with her brother Simon Chambers, also a Director. They have diversified the business over the years to incorporate licensing and branding opportunities for Storm clients. Recent success stories have included Kate Moss's collaboration with high street retailer Top Shop, the creation of her first and second fragrances with industry giant Coty, and a hair care range James Brown London - produced in association with her childhood friend, hairstylist James Brown.

Swarovski - Crystal in Fashion

Swarovski joined the Scottish Fashion Awards for the very first time last year as 'Official Jeweller', confirming both the events status on the international fashion calendar and Swarovski's continued commitment to nurturing and celebrating fashion talent.

With the Scottish Fashion Awards now officially included on the Swarovski Red Carpet Calendar, the brand will return again this year to add a dash of sparkle to the Awards 5th Anniversary at The Glasgow Science Centre, with Creative Director Nathalie Colin back in her role as an Official Judge.

Swarovski will once again accessorise celebrities and fashionistas in attendance for the evening, with glistening jewels and sophisticated clutches from its new 'Statement' and Autumn Winter Fashion Collections.

Previously seen accessorizing the stars for the red carpet at the 82nd Annual Academy Awards, Swarovski's new Statement Collection offers evening bags that have so far been exclusively reserved for actresses appearing at the film industry's biggest international events. "For this season I wanted bags with a real red carpet feel, combining Swarovski's expertise with classic crystal, sophisticated colours and pure forms," explains Creative Director and SFA Judge, Nathalie Colin.

Inspired by the frozen waters of Nordic landscapes, where the horizon merges into the sky, Swarovski's new Autumn Winter Collection for 2010/11 features minimalist lines which allow the sheer luxury of crystal to shine through. Clean lines, simple colours and materials in perfect symbiosis, and at the forefront - crystal. The true spirit of haute couture can be seen in each iconic, timeless piece, thanks to the expertise of the Daniel Swarovski line.

These collections are a reinterpretation of luxury, with a modernity and poetry that could only be Swarovski. The red carpet era of ostentation and opulence has given way to elegance and discretion, with a sophisticated style where perfection lies in subtleties and small details.

Swarovski's Statement Collection accessories will be the 'must-haves' on the Scottish Fashion Awards red tartan carpet this year and will be sold exclusively in selected Swarovski Stores from September.

History

In 1895, Daniel Swarovski I, a Bohemian inventor and visionary, moved to the village of Wattens, Tyrol in Austria, with his newly-invented machine for cutting and polishing crystal jewellery stones. From this beginning that revolutionised the fashion world, Swarovski has grown to be the world's leading producer of precision-cut crystal, for fashion, jewellery and more recently lighting, architecture and interiors. Today, the company, still based in Wattens, family-owned and run by 4th and 5th generation family members, has a global reach, with some 26.000 employees, a presence in over 120 countries and a turnover in 2008 of 2.52 billion Euros. Swarovski comprises two major businesses, one producing and selling loose elements to the industry and the other creating design-driven finished products. Swarovski crystal components, known by their product brand names CRYSTALLIZED™ - Swarovski Elements for fashion and STRASS® Swarovski® Crystal for architecture and light, have become an essential ingredient of international design. Since 1965 the company has also catered to the fine jewellery industry with precision-cut genuine and created gemstones, and from April 2008 has strengthened this relationship by revitalising and renaming the product brand ENLIGHTENEDTM - Swarovski Elements. Showing the creativity that lies at the heart of the company, Swarovski's own-brand lines of accessories, jewellery and home décor are sold through more than 1,600 retail outlets in all major fashion capitals. The exclusive Daniel Swarovski accessories collection has meanwhile become the company's couture signature. The Swarovski Crystal Society has close to 350,000 members worldwide, keen collectors of the celebrated crystal figurines. And in Wattens, Swarovski Kristallwelten, the multi-media crystal museum, was opened in 1995, as a celebration of Swarovski's universe of innovation and inspiration. The Swarovski corporation also includes Tyrolit®, manufacturing grinding tools, Swareflex, for road safety reflectors and Swarovski Optik, producing precision optical instruments.
